Several factors were at play: pricing at law firms is often manual and lacks reference to similar past matters; clients increasingly demand fixed prices; and companies now request quotes for specific phases of legal procedures, not the entire process. Our client sought software to address these challenges.

Metamorf made four key contributions. First, we used machine learning to clean the firm’s timesheets and create a reliable dataset of phase-level time data. This was consolidated with the firm's contextual matter data through custom data models for specific legal procedures. We then trained phase-level predictive models to estimate time contributions by lawyer grade. After the models were validated, Metamorf built an application for lawyers and pricing teams to price new matters. The entire system is automated, with models retraining weekly to continuously learn from new data.

The firm can now offer fixed prices for both entire procedures and individual phases, doing so in less than 10% of the time it previously took. As a result, the firm is now regarded as an industry leader in pricing.
